PRO CHAT WITH JESSICA

Adenola Adesgun is a young producer with an humble beginning in music composition and producing. He has worked with a handful of people and his works speaks for him. With the pace at which he is going I will not be surprised if he clings an award anything soon due to the awesomeness of his works.

Here are excepts from the chat I had with him.

Enjoy

Please introduce yourself:
My name is Adenola Adesegun Gabriel, I’m a music producer, my growing up was fun, I am the last child of the family, I have 3 siblings. While growing up I loved football but later realized I had a passion for music.  My uncle had a keyboard and I always begged my Granma for 1naira to pay my uncle so I could play the keyboard. I learnt how to play percussion first, and then I learnt the drum and then the keyboard.

What made you want to become a music producer?
A guy named Udeme Fortune who was the choir director of a church I attended a while back saw my deep passion for music and just knew I would be better at producing. Udeme is a kind of person that doesn’t let go until he gets the best out of you so he kept encouraging me in the music producing direction. I later met ID Cabasa who took his time to nurture me in music producing.

What is the biggest struggle as a producer?
Your biggest struggle is when you are disconnected from the source. It makes everything else useless.

The best person(s) I have worked with
I have worked with Pastor Timothy Ajiboye, ID Cabasa, Udeme Fortune, Bro Wole. Biggest of all Pastor Yemi Davids.

What or who is your biggest accomplishment as a producer?
I still work with upcoming artist, they are really doing well. I have worked with Ikworships who sang Akamaranma, Seyi Solagbade, Rotey and many more. My accomplishment really is seeing the artist I have worked with get the much desired result from the music we worked on.

What type of music are you good at

I’m good at all genre of music. An elephant can only give birth to an elephant.

Which instruments do you play?
The  keyboard, the Saxophone; I am not yet an expert at it though. I can also play the trumpet, Bass Guitar and the drum.

Which famous musicians do you admire?
Donnie Mcclurkin, J Moss, Mali Music, I admire them because they understand what they are doing. They always bring out fresh tunes. They are never stale.

What style of music are you influenced by?

I try not to sound like anyone. I just pick from whatever tune works for me at the time and modify it.

First instrument ever learnt?
Percussion

Who are your favourite musicians?

African: Eben, Timi Dakolo and Ikworships, ID Cabasa.
Foreign: Kelvin Borned

Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

I used to, but now I use "Ogboju" (Yoruba word for being sharp). I just act like I’m really not nervous, while deep down I truly am. I remember this one time I was in Italy with Seyi Shola Gbade and we were meant to minster and I was seriously nervous but just I had to act like I wasn’t.

What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
If it is your passion then run with it. Don’t do it because people are doing it. What sells now might not sell later.

Do you teach music?
Yes I do, I have being teaching for over 7years now. I didn’t learn it in any professional school. I learnt music in church.

What would you say you have learned the most as a music producer?
I have learnt to be patience and not always follow trend.

How did you come about the name Segun Keez?
The initial Keez was spelt keys but I later got to meet a communication and branding specialist and he advised I spell my keys differently to make me distinct so we picked Segun Keez.

Where do you see yourself in 10years from now?
Anybody would say they want to work with the biggest artist but I would say I want to groom not just myself but others too.

I would love to produce for?
Pastor Donnie McClurkin

Last words?
A big thank to everyone who has supporting me, my dad, my siblings, pastor Yemi Davids, Opeyemi Beckley, the woman of my dreams Iyanuoluwa. And you too thank you for having me.

Thank you for your time Segun.
