DEFINING “SMART CASUAL”

A very popular but often perplexing dress code is… “Smart Casual”.. How do you define Smart Casual?? In a broad categorisation, I would define Smart Casual as a well tailored, put-together look that is smart, chic and sometimes..fun? It is a dressed down version of traditional suits.. An easier approach to professional business/formal wear.. Here your personal style is allowed to shine through.. yet still slightly restrained..

It varies depending largely on the sort of industry you belong to.. In some cases, Smart Casual is still relatively quite formal..

These tips would see you through a smart casual dress code:

For the ladies:

1. A well cut Knee/ mid length dress. It can be in fun colours

2.  A nice pencil skirt..still knee length or midi

3. A patterned blouse or top

4. A blazer/ throw-on

5. Brooches, neckscarfs, Accessories, pearls..

7. Clutch bags

6. Ballerina flats/ Nice heels

7. Trousers/ Pants

For Men:

1. Well Cut blazers

2. Dark Slacks/ Trousers

3. Long Sleeve Shirts

4. With or without a Tie

5. Sweaters/Cardigans

6. In some cases, a well cut pair of navy blue Jeans and  a Blazer could pass..

The pictures below depict my humble take on the smart casual dress code.I wore a pair of Floral Culottes and matching peplum top I scored from Zinkata. I absolutely love the cut and print of the outfit. It is a really chic and smart look. I also teamed it with a gorgeous big blue Aiirkey bag available at Zinkata as well. I find it quite smart and casual at the same time.. and it was quite appropriate for my duties as well..( Fashion Consulatnt).
If you work in a more restrained environment, a throw-on ow blazer would look amazing with this outfit as well..It can also be teamed with a crisp white or black shirt and shoes of your choice.

In a nutshell.. Think neat, Smart, well together and chic/suave… Smart Casual sorted!!

What are your thoughts?? What is your take or definition of smart casual? I would love to hear from you!

Stay Smart.. Stay Happy… Stay Fabulous!

Sincerely,

Ezinne Chinkata

The “Refined Opulence” collection tells a story of old elegance and beauty. The inspiration behind the collection was drawn from ideology of understated elegance as seen in influences like Richard Avedon’s photography and Greta Garbo’s old Hollywood style.

The designer interprets traditional silhouettes with modern cuts and elements with the debut of sequins and lace along with rich jewel toned colors that mirror the spirit of the holiday season while maintaining the aesthetic of the brand.

Egg-cellent Meal!

Daily Mail reports:
One creative mother has come up with a novel way of making sure her offspring eat their breakfasts - by using eggs to make works of art. Sculpted into a variety of extraordinary designs, Anne Widya, from Hong Kong, uses sunny side up eggs to make sure her children's plates are always cleared.

Made using a cookie cutter and sushi wrap, the mother-of-four serves eggs in an assortment of shapes from smiling pigs to ice cream sundaes. Mrs Widya's art career first began as way to cheer up her son, Andrew, when he became unwell and was forced to miss school. The colourful designs proved a hit and since then, Mrs Widya, who has never been to a single cooking class and is completely self-taught, has made them every day. Ideas for the designs come from everyday objects, interesting pictures discovered while browsing the internet, the TV or book illustrations. And she's also become an internet sensation in her own right, after she began posting photos of her designs online.

'I've always loved decorating my kids plates, whether it was for dessert, pastry or bread but it used to be something simple,' she explains. 'In 2012, I posted a picture of Andrew's fully decorated meal when he was sick and my friends loved the plate. 'As time went on, their breakfast plates ended up becoming my art projects. Sunny side up requires a little patience to make, the edges will burn or overcook using high heat. 'I usually plan everything ahead of time, I cut the bread up using scissors the night before and keep it in an air tight container. 'In the morning I slice the fruits while toasting the bread and fry the sunny side up eggs and sausages all at the same time.

'If I see a cute thing on the internet, TV or in a book, I will take a picture of it using my iPhone and keep it for reference. 'When I have free time, I will look at those pictures again and think about how I will make that shape using egg, fruit or bread. 'For morning egg art it usually takes 45 minutes for 3 decorated plates, I only make 3 plates because my youngest is still very picky and is still in the phase of throwing things on the floor. 'I make them as often as time allows, I don't make food art in a hurry as it would defeat the whole purpose of making it. I want to create happy memories for all of my family.'

Body artist transforms her models into beasts from zebra to seahorse in mind-bending tricks

At first glance, they all look like wonders from the animal kingdom. But look a little closer and you'll spot a woman's hand here, her foot poking out there, or the outline of her torso twisted into an extraordinary pose. For these remarkable images were all created by 'body concept artist' Emma Fay - with a little help from a couple of contortionists who acted as her human 'canvas'.

First the contortionists, Beth Sykes and Lowri Thomas, who wore leotards to protect their modesty, got into the required pose so Miss Fay could draw compositional marks on their bodies. These acted as a guide to ensure her paintings would turn out to be the optical illusions she desires.

Miss Fay used a brush and sponge to apply the water-based paints to their bodies. Once the painting was completed, it was then just a case of the contortionist resuming the requisite pose so a photograph could be taken of the finished artwork against a white background.

Miss Fay, who sells prints of her animal creations, said: 'The photograph is pretty much the last five minutes of the whole process - then Beth and Lowri are free to go home and have a well-deserved shower. 'The photographs always get a brilliant response. People love the optical illusion aspect of it.

'For me, it's kind of exploration of evolution - a study of the remarkable things humans can do with their bodies and the remarkable ways animals have evolved to survive in their surroundings.

Miss Fay says 'I consider them pieces of art, not body painting.'

Romeo Beckham, 12, unveiled as the star of Burberry's Christmas campaign.

David and Victoria Beckham's son Romeo Beckham is the new face Burberry Christmas campaign. I am not surprised with him being the face of  Burberry rather I am expecting him to be the face to more than one brand sef, abi na *konko shrug* seeing that Romeo has parents who are both designers.

Dailymail UK had this to say:

He made his modelling debut for Burberry last year - and the world cooed in unison. Such a success was his first foray into fashion that the iconic British brand has invited 12-year-old Romeo Beckham back to star in its Christmas campaign. Romeo, who is the second eldest son of David and Victoria, steals the spotlight in the Burberry Festive campaign, From London with Love.

Following his mother into the fashion world, the youngster was hand-picked by the British label's Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey, for the second time. As well as posing in a series of campaign shots, Romeo also stars in a short film, which promises to take the audience on a magical festive journey. Speaking about the campaign and working with the young Beckham, Christopher Bailey said: 'This festive campaign is a celebration of everything we love at Burberry; the trench coat, the cashmere scarf, incredible music, our British weather, and working with great and talented people.'It continues to be an utter joy working with Romeo – he has charm, style and great energy! I’m delighted that he’s the lead role in our festive campaign.'

Looking old beyond his years, but still exuding a youthful playfulness, Romeo wears a classic Burberry trench and his own monogrammed checked scarf. In one shot, the youngster looks dapper in a tuxedo, and in another he holds an umbrella as he glances pensively into the distance. The new campaign film is set against a theatrical London backdrop, which comes alive with over 50 dancers who give a performance inspired by the golden age of cinematic musicals. The story captures a boy delivering the gift of love to a young couple, played by new British models and dancers Hannah Dodds and Anders Hayward, and aims to celebrate gifting as the ultimate symbol of a connection between people. Shot on location at a custom-designed set on the George Lucas stage at Elstree Studios in London, the dancers perform to choreography by Lynne Page, specially designed for the exclusive campaign soundtrack ‘The Way that I Live’.

The track was written and recorded by British musician Ed Harcourt, at Abbey Road Studios, and is available for pre-order on iTunes from today, ahead of its official release in December. Burberry are well known for supporting up-and-coming musicians and the likes of Paloma Faith and Tom Odell have performed live sets at previous catwalk shows. The launch of the campaign also coincides with the grand unveiling of Burberry's festive gifts in store and online.
